062025: Things that made life special this week
Summer things: refreshing elixirs, linen, picnic blankets, ice cream, swimsuits, and more
Hello and welcome to Things That Made Life Special This Week, a celebration of the pursuits that add a little something extra to the everyday.
Happy Summer Solstice! Wow, my sincere apologies for being so delinquent on newsletters this month. Over the past two weeks, I’ve fallen behind on absolutely everything and I’m doing my best to catch up, one thing at a time.
In case you missed the most recent Wednesday newsletter, I shared what I look for and how I find good home decor at French brocantes.

This week’s recs
Using: Caudalie Resveratrol-Lift Instant Firming Serum and Caudalie Beauty Elixir
This serum was recommended to me as a retinol alternative for those whose skin can’t handle retinol (me). I’ve been using it for about two weeks and I love the results. My skin is smoother, brighter, and makeup (what little I’m wearing in the summer) goes on better. Strong recommend.
The Beauty Elixir is a spritz I keep in the fridge and apply before my moisturizer in the morning and at night, or whenever I need a cool refresh. It smells like herbs and tightens pores, sets makeup, and wakes your skin up when you need a little radiance.
Eyeing: Jute rugs
I have a new decoration project coming up in a few months (!!) and I think I’ll use jute rugs generously throughout the space. Maybe that’s just my summer brain talking though? Regardless, I have my eye on simplicity: this one, this one, and this one with a more geometric weave. It’s hard to choose… they all have such different color and texture profiles. But I like the idea of choosing one jute rug style and using it in several rooms for visual coherence.
Using: Zaze gingham waterproof picnic blanket
Cute picnic gingham, waterproof so you can picnic even on wet ground, rolls up into a bundle with a carry handle, on sale for $30. What more do you need from a picnic blanket? It’s been going everywhere outdoors with the baby and I this month. I got the blue and white.
Wearing: Alex Mill pull-on linen pieces
I ordered a few things from Alex Mill for my casual day-to-day this summer, and I was really drawn to the bold, cerulean blue hue of the season. I bought both this skirt and these shorts. They’re so comfy and such a good fit I literally put them on out of the package. I wear them with white cotton or linen tops, or bright blue tops for a summer monochrome look.
Doing: Swimming! In my favorite Hunza G suits
I have collected four different Hunza G suits over the years: two classic square neck one pieces and two bikinis. They’re one size fits most, so I wore them throughout my pregnancy and now after. The quality is amazing and the texture and cut are so flattering. Good coverage, too.
Eating: Toll House Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches
These are so good???
Have a great weekend!
xx Jane
