071825: Things that made life special this week
Hello and welcome to Things That Made Life Special This Week, a celebration of the pursuits that add a little something extra to the everyday.
In case you missed the Wednesday newsletter, I took you with me on a walk through an antiques/flea market I visited over the weekend. Do you like these kinds of newsletters? Let me know.

This week’s recs
Buying: LaFuma zero gravity lawn chairs
We’ve stayed in a lot of Airbnbs over the past 3 months and while mostly I could have done without the experience, there was one huge silver lining: the lawn chairs provided by the latest one. This is the most comfortable lawn chair I’ve ever sat in—and one of the most comfortable chairs, period. It reclines and elevates your feet at the same time so you feel the sort of zero gravity comfort previously only delivered by a really good massage table. I immediately ordered a set of two. When the current heat wave breaks (hopefully tonight) I’m going to be in it constantly.
If literally anyone from this company could speak to anyone in the airline industry, that would be great.
Using: Wicker furniture for the nursery
We’re finally moved back into our house in France and I’m putting together my daughter’s little nursery. I’ve been stockpiling furniture, art, linens, and accessories for it for the better part of a year, so I thought I’d share a few wicker pieces I love:
This apple toy storage basket from Ferm Living (or perhaps you prefer the pear) and this storage side table from IKEA.
P.S. Should I do a nursery design newsletter? Let me know.
Doing: Training my Facebook Marketplace algorithm
Most people know that your local Facebook Marketplace page is one of the best places to get good deals on furniture and decor—and children’s stuff, especially. If it’s listed on Marketplace, people need it out of their house asap.
But did you know that by hearting listings, even if you have no intention of buying them, you can train the algorithm to serve you up similar listings in the future? This is great if you have an upcoming move but aren’t ready to shop yet—or just want your Marketplace scrolling time to be super efficient.
P.S. This is my only use of the Facebook platform so don’t try to add me as a friend. ;)
Eating: This specific salad on repeat
We still don’t have an oven here but I don’t care! Couldn’t be bothered to turn it on in this heat anyway. So this is my refreshing dinner/lunch nearly every day:
Red leaf lettuce
Sliced raw red bell pepper
Cubed avocado
Castelvetrano olives
Boursin cheese: garlic and herb flavor
Roasted and salted cashews
Dijon balsamic vinaigrette (made with Maille mustard, Maille balsamic, and La Tourangelle olive oil, the best ingredients, plus salt and pepper and a squeeze of lemon)
I think it can be improved with some grilled chicken though!
Wearing: French braids
I haven’t blow dried my hair in ??? (amount of time) so every time after I wash it, I French braid it, sleep in the braid, and have smooth, non-frizzy waves the next day. This is a great hack! Also just wearing a French braid during the day is cute.
Have a great weekend!
xx Jane
