072525: Things that made life special this week
Really good snack board ideas, padded socks, my passion for cloches, and more
Hello and welcome to Things That Made Life Special This Week, a celebration of the pursuits that add a little something extra to the everyday.
This week has been beyond packed and I just didn’t get the Wednesday newsletter out. It’s kind of hard to explain what’s keeping us so busy, but think of it as nonstop packing/moving day. We’re having a lot of craftspeople come at once to work on multiple rooms simultaneously, so each time they start on a new room, we need to clear it completely. So there’s a constant musical chairs of emptying one room and filling another with its contents. Plus, we’re culling and donating/throwing away items at the same time. The volume of work is just enormous.
I appreciate all the grace you’ve given me this summer as life has been topsy turvy. <3

This week’s recs
Buying: Farmer’s market flowers
The chamomile is here, the dahlias are here, the cosmos are here. A little countrysidey bouquet was just what my kitchen table needed, and I think yours does too.
Using: Little glass cloches
I found a handful of these at a brocante recently and they’re the perfect size to put over some cheese or a small tart/cake. Or a stack of cookies. The sky is the limit! See above! Keep off the flies and bees and present your snack board in a chic way. Presenting cheese on fig leaves doesn’t hurt, either.
Making: You guessed it, snack boards
I don’t have an oven right now, and who wants to turn on the oven in the summer, anyway? We’ve been serving gorgeous snack boards whenever we have people over to the French house.
Some ideas you can riff on:
Cornichons
Ruffled potato chips or kettle chips
Boursin cheese wrapped in salty ham
Straight up salty ham
Salami
Hummus with confit lemon
Beet hummus
Peaches and nectarines
Salmon rillettes
Sliced cucumber
Castelvetrano olives
Roasted and salted cashews
Cheese twists or cheesy crackers
Baguette, of course
Salted butter, of course
Goat cheese rolled in herbs of some kind, or edible flowers!
Saint-Félicien cheese
Tête de moine cheese
Comte cheese
Emmenthal cheese
Cherries
Cooked mini shrimp in a vinaigrette
Wearing: Outdoor Voices ankle socks
These are so comfortable and padded! With life being so busy right now, I put on a clean pair to sleep (anyone else sleep in socks or am I weird?) and then wear them straight through the next day’s projects.
Have a great weekend!
xx Jane

The snack board is beautiful!
