Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of The Bell!
It’s a special day, my friends. The French summer sales have begun! Markdowns in France happen only twice a year: July and January. So if you’re traveling to Paris this month, be sure to save some room in your suitcase to go shopping. And if not, here are some of my favorite French brands that ship to the U.S.—and my top picks from the sales*. Including some for kids, because French children’s clothing is the cutest.
*Because these are sales, not all sizes will be in stock, but I’ve done my best to choose items with lots of availability as of June 28.
For adults
24S
The online shop of the iconic department store, Le Bon Marché. They carry all the global luxury brands you’d expect, but also some really special designers you won’t find at Neiman’s.
Daisy heeled sandals by Bobbies (I have these in silver and gold and they are SO comfortable and elegant)
A.P.C.
Such a classic French brand where you can go for timeless, high-quality basic pieces that you’ll keep for years and years. I love visiting their original Rue Madame store near the Luxembourg Garden when I’m in Paris. (Have a look at their menswear, too!)
Balibaris
My husband was wearing head-to-toe Balibaris on our first date (and he looked very handsome), so this brand will forever be a favorite of mine.
Ba&sh
A cardigan from this brand was everywhere last fall (I love it and want it in black and ivory). They’re known for their dresses, but I personally prefer their knitwear and tops.
Inès de la Fressange
The fashion brand designed by the iconic French model herself!
Octobre
Did you know there’s a men’s shop under the same ownership as Sézane? It’s Octobre and it’s great.
Sessùn
This was one of the first places I went shopping when I moved to Paris because I didn’t pack a winter coat. I especially love them for their outerwear, but everything is good. Today I’m featuring their feminine, elegant dresses.
Sézane
Of course! I’m a huge fan of this brand and they just opened a popup store in Boston this month.
For children
Bonpoint
Bonpoint is on the very luxury end of children’s clothing and they make really special pieces to be handed down through the generations. The current 40% off sale doesn’t exactly make their prices low, but it helps.
April onesie (newborn)
Alexandrina dress (baby/toddler girl)
Arlene dress (girl)
Cicero tunic (baby/toddler boy)
Artiste shirt (boy)
Emile et Ida
The prints and colors in this brand are so sweet, and they make lovely casual clothes for women, too.
Blue gingham cotton hat (baby, toddler, and girl)
Blue gingham cotton overall (baby and toddler girl)
Pink gingham cotton dress (toddler and girl)
Jonquil cotton dress (toddler and girl)
Blue striped terrycloth polo (baby, toddler, and boy)
Chambray trousers (baby, toddler, and boy)
Jacadi
This is such an iconic French children’s brand. It was so hard to narrow down my picks, because there are lots of sizes and options in this sale.
Striped poplin outfit (baby girl)
Short onesie (baby boy)
Linen shorts (baby and toddler girl)
Short dungarees (baby and toddler boy)
Liberty fabric blouse (girl)
Slack pants (boy)
Let me know - are any of these brands new to you? Will you be doing any shopping during the French summer sales? Leave a comment or reply directly to this email.
This week’s recs
Buying: This 100% supima cotton sheets set from… wait for it… Lands End!
I have to credit Emily Schoen for this hot tip. These sheets from Lands End are apparently amazing and (sorry for the last minute notice) 50% off TODAY 6/29 only. Seems like they would be worth it full price though. We needed a new set of sheets, so I bought the sheets set, duvet cover, and four extra pillowcases in white. I did monogram the extra pillowcases (so my husband doesn’t panic reading this, the monogram is also in white thread and incredibly subtle) and I can’t wait to receive these and make the bed.
Reading: This tour of Alix D. Reynis’ new home in Paris
I absolutely love the Alix D. Reynis brand of porcelain and homeware (Rue Jacob in Paris), so when my husband sent me this link, I’ve never clicked on anything faster. This home is so serene and restrained. I would move in!
Watching: JosieLDN’s wedding on YouTube
I have a soft spot for English countryside influencers and a soft spot for weddings, what can I say? Josie and her new husband Charlie threw an absolute dream of a Cotswolds wedding at their absolute dream of a home, and I was riveted as a viewer. If you’re looking for some escapism and wholesome content, this is it. There’s also a part two and three.
Listening: “Flavor Town 9” on The Popcast with Knox and Jamie
This is the Popcast’s annual contest to give the spiciest take about something insignificant. I was cackling.
Doing: Attending ‘Dinner in the Field’ at a local farm
Last Thursday evening, Francois and I went to the loveliest dinner at Wilson Farm in Lexington, MA. We got to eat a three-course dinner outdoors on a gorgeous night, literally next to their fields of crops. We met some really friendly people and had a blast staying out past our bedtime on a weeknight. There’s another one coming up in July if you’re local, or look for something similar in your area.
Making: …trips to Sweetgreen?
I’ve been in pre-travel empty fridge mode for several days, so instead of cooking I’ve been enjoying a lot of Sweetgreen takeout. The new peach and goat cheese salad on the early summer menu is fantastic! I suggest adding blackened chicken.
I hope you all have a great 4th of July weekend if you’re in the U.S.! Find me on Instagram in the meantime.
xx Jane

But some will! If you plan to buy something featured in this newsletter, using my link will help support the time and love I put into writing these for you. I appreciate your support so much!
Tips on sizing for Bobbie sandals? I am typically a EUR 40/US 9; however, the site is using French sizing and it doesn’t quite translate. Have to get the Casey sandals. Obvi.
