071125: Things that made life special this week
Sneakers, art shopping, more bubbly drinks, and a crunchy-salty-sweet-umami snack I can't stop eating
Hello and welcome to Things That Made Life Special This Week, a celebration of the pursuits that add a little something extra to the everyday. I’m back in France!
In case you missed the Wednesday newsletter, I discussed prioritizing the important vs. the urgent, mused on motherhood, and recommitted to this newsletter’s cadence.
Have you tried Roz hair yet? You can still use code JANE15 for 15% off the whole Roz Hair site—can’t be combined with other promos. Find all my favorite picks here.
This week’s recs
Wearing: On Running Cloudswift sneakers
This is my second pair of Cloudswift shoes from On Running. I wear them for tennis, travel, riding my Peloton (no I don’t have the special shoes), strength workouts, and daily wear. They’re so comfortable and flattering. I buy the white—I love a white athletic shoe, I’m basic and I know it! I clean them with a magic eraser on the soles and then the washing machine.
Considering: Buying art
With a few exceptions of pieces I adore, I feel like the art in my U.S. apartment is kind of stale. To that end, I’ve been discovering some new-to-me artists and hope to make a few purchases soon. Here are two artists I have my eye on:
Flower Press Studio has caught my eye for their stunning poster-size prints of pressed flowers—and even vegetables. The prices are very good but they do limited runs in drops, so you have to sign up for the newsletter and wait. Alas, no instant gratification, but doesn’t that make the purchase all the more sweet?
Roșie Harbottle is a UK-based artist who does joyous botanical paintings and also sells prints of her originals. I’m really drawn to her style and could happily adorn my walls with any number of her works.
Drinking: Some very chic sparkling water
Perrier recently introduced flavored sparkling water line called ‘Chic,’ inspired by summer cocktails. For me, it’s a great drink because you get a little more flavor than normal sparkling water through a small amount of added fruit juice, but way less sugar than soda—I think less than 5g per can. Cheers to a mocktail summer!
Eating: Trader Joe’s Sesame Honey Cashews
I threw a bag of these in my suitcase at the last minute and they’re addictive. Crunching on them currently as I write. Far prefer to the cashew butter cashews. But a fresh bag of roasted, salted cashews or pistachios also hits every time.
Also, is it me, or do the cashews shed enough sesame seeds to top a cake with or some other dessert? It’s like two products for the price of one!
Have a great weekend! Monday is a national holiday here in France (July 14th—Independence Day) so it’s going to be a very festive weekend, especially in Saumur, a town with such rich military history.
xx Jane
